Cogent Social Sciences: Sport and Discrimination Journal

The Sport and Discrimination section of the Cogent Social Sciences journal focuses on a myriad of discriminatory forms within sport. The section invites submissions exploring sport participation, coaching, recruitment, fandom, policy, management and governance, accessibility and inclusivity, media representations, and particularly welcomes research which promotes strategic measures for positive and transformative change to combat discrimination. More broadly, this intersectional section should appeal to scholars from media and cultural studies, sports journalism, esports, sport studies, sport sociology, sports law, sports psychology, sport marketing, internet studies, among other disciplines.

What we welcome:

Original Research – We invite original research articles that provide in-depth investigations which focus on understanding and/or tackling discrimination in sport. Contributions may employ diverse theoretical and methodological approaches, including qualitative and quantitative research.

Review Article – We encourage review articles that critically engage with the field by synthesising existing scholarship, reassessing theoretical frameworks, or mapping new directions for inquiry. Such reviews might interrogate key debates, evaluate emerging trends, or revisit foundational texts that shape our understanding of sport and discrimination.

Special Collection – If you would like to lead, or work on, a special collection which explores or challenges injustice within sport, please reach out. A special collection might, for instance, focus on a particular sport, an event, an emerging area within the field, or a type of discrimination.

If you have any questions relating to the journal or would like to discuss the possibility of a special issue, please contact Section Editor Prof. Daniel Kilvington: d.j.kilvington@leedsbeckett.ac.uk. For more info: https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/oass20/about-this-journal#aims-and-scope
